Formed by former members of the
award-winning Labor Exchange Band, the Hohak Band creates a
unique mix of traditional and modern music and plays it with
both admirable technical skill and undisguised joy. The band's
name literally translates as "good to guests", i.e., hospitable
and welcoming, but also plays on their Hakka identity, as it
could also be translated as "good Hakkas". From their name
alone, it is obvious that the Hohak Band is about having fun,
and when you hear their music, you can hear that they had a lot
of fun making it.
Most of the songs on this first album by the Hohak Band were
built around traditional Hakka folk songs. The Hohak Band also
makes extensive use of traditional instruments such as suona (an
trumpet-like instrument) and erhu (a two-stringed violin-like
instrument), as well as bass, electric guitar and a unique drum
kit. But they approach both the traditional songs and their
instruments in completely new ways, incorporating styles and
sounds ranging from the "West African blues" of Ali Farka Toure
to the bass playing of jazz legend Jaco Pastorius, from
Taiwanese aboriginal melodies to rap. They throw in a number of
original compositions, and a mix of original lyrics and
reworkings of traditional Hakka songs, often updating the latter
in entertaining ways. But even for those who don't understand a
word of Hakka, there is plenty of fun to be had, as the joy
inherent in this music can be heard by any listener regardless
of their age or background. Welcome to the Hohak Carnival!
好客樂隊 是由曾獲
2002年【金曲獎最佳樂團獎】的交工樂隊團員所組成，並邀請胡琴手與電吉他手鬥陣演出。樂隊成員有：鼓手「阿達」鍾成達、貝斯手主唱陳冠宇、嗩吶手「第一支」郭進財、電吉他手「小豪」柯智豪以及胡琴手「蕭仔」蕭詩偉。「好客」之名，意指根基於傳統音樂與客家文化的驕傲之上，廣納其他各種不同的音樂形式，希望能敲開傳統曲調與現代音樂之間的幡籬，奏出青春摩登與傳統古調的和諧對話，進一步發展新時代的音樂脈動。
陳冠宇＼團長、主唱、Bass、木吉他 一九七一年七月十六日生於中壢。前交工貝斯手、製作人與錄音師，現為好客樂隊團長，文化大學國樂系錄音工程講師。2000年獲金曲獎最佳製作人獎，2002年獲金曲獎最佳樂團獎。
鍾成達（阿達）＼鼓手 一九七一年二月十五日生於出生於屏東音樂世家，祖父是二胡樂師，父親是吉他手、鋼琴師，弟弟則是音樂圈內知名吉他手鍾成虎。職業樂師20年，專業打擊樂編曲家。阿達從來沒上過一堂鼓的課，完全自摸自學，經歷近十年六次音樂革命，自行研發一套全世界絕無僅有的鼓組，結合傳統八音鼓與西洋爵士鼓的「達鼓七代」！
郭進財 （第一支）＼嗩吶手 一九六六年六月二十一日生於新加坡。現為高雄市國樂團吹管樂組長，曾獲得英國皇家音樂學院雙簧管八級演奏文憑。第一支的封號，出自於他管樂吹奏的境界。精通中國傳統管樂器如管子、卡槍、口弦等，更跨足西洋薩克斯風。
蕭詩偉（蕭仔）＼胡琴手 一九七五年十一月二十五日生於彰化。藝專時期主修二胡。曾經是蘭陽劇團與當代傳奇劇場的樂手。蕭仔在後交工時期開始入團演出，在熟捻客家傳統曲調、河洛歌仔戲與北管旋律等的基礎下，蕭仔在好客中發展出了中國胡琴少見的即興野味，運用板胡、二胡、喇叭弦等多把胡琴，做出如電子聲響的彈跳感。
柯智豪（小豪）＼電吉他手 一九七七年二月十一日生於台北。音樂經歷豐富，從小時候的豎琴，當高中時期的佛朗明哥吉他，管弦樂團的薩克斯風，還有pub裡的電吉他演出。他的另一個身份是互動式數位藝術家，目前任教於某大學音樂系的電腦音樂課程講師，亦為雷光夏電詩樂隊一員。
