TCM's first compilation album of local underground bands
in 1999 ushered in a new era of alternative music in
Taiwan. Many of Taiwan's most creative bands appeared on
CD for the first time on that collection before
releasing their own albums and garnering nationwide
success. With tcm's second independent compilation, the
next wave has arrived. Unlike the whitebread popmusic
forcefed us by the mainstream record industry,
over-refined to the point of dull tastelessness, devoid
of nutrition and life, tcm is primarily concerned with
the living heart and soul of music. The criteria for
choosing these bands was the passion of their songs and
the explosiveness of their live performances, and serves
up a cross-section of the emerging generation of
Taiwanese bands, including the irrepressible wave of
punk rock bands now cresting in the underground clubs of
Taipei. Originality is the primordium from which good
music grows, and it's here in abundance in this
collection. This album and these bands will stand at the
center of local alternate music for many years to come.
