Introduction

Blue in Love

Over the years, Hao-en and Jiajia penned songs infused with the simplicity of village life ˇV with lyrics that tell of lizards and stars and the eyes of a lover. Blues guitar melds with jazz wind instruments and rich, harmonic voices reminiscent of a church choir. Hao-en and Jiajiaˇ¦s music mixes the blues with the effervescent feeling of being in love, creating a final product that can be thought of as ˇ§Blue in Love.ˇ¨

Blue in Love, On the Road

The Puyuma Tribe has a history of music that permeates village life in southeastern Taiwan.

While traditional songs are still the mainstay in the Nanwang Village ceremonies and rituals, guitar music and rich blues voices fuse with tradition in the contemporary compositions of Hao-en and Jiajia, the next generation of Puyuma musicians.

Hao-en began to play blues guitar when he was just 14 years old. Through the years, he could often be seen with a guitar on his knee, or strumming a tune while lying on his back -- almost as though the guitar had become an extension of his body.

Jiajiaˇ¦s instrument is her spirit-filled voice, a voice which knew how to sing even before it could speak.
