Direct from the Mother Earth, Most Savory Flavors
¡§Grandpa Watermelon,¡¨ Mr. Chen Wen-yu, living in the
south city of Taiwan, is the founder of the
world-largest watermelon plantlets grower. One out of
every four watermelon seeds in the world comes from his
company. With his outstanding watermelon plantlets being
grown in over fifty countries, Mr. Chen shares the
genuine taste of watermelons from his hometown with the
whole world.
Dialects, our mother tongues, are the same as Mr. Chen¡¦s
watermelons. They are the languages and voices of the
land we live on. Through their music and lyrics, the
dialect singer-songwriters also convey the beauty of
their homelands to other people, sharing the sweetness
of their lands with everybody.
The true spirit of the grass roots is in the hearts of
those who participated in the Taiwanese Dialectic
Songwriting Contest. Even though we moved to the city,
far from the hometown where we grew up, we never stop
missing our homeland. The familiar smell of the land has
already quietly rooted in every musical note, in every
ear. This album, ¡§Collection of Winning Works in 2005
Taiwanese Dialectic Songwriting Contest,¡¨compiles songs
in Southern Min Dialect, Hakka and aboriginal languages.
