At the peak of summer, when the sun burns white-hot and
heat waves hit the northeast coast, a stage appears on
the shore of the azure sea at Fulong. Converging on this
point are the rockers who come seeking direction, the
punks trying to prove they're not just about breaking
things, and the ladies to smile and cry. Together they
bring all kinds of flippant, rebellious music to
instigate the tens of thousands of fans that swarm the
beach. From afar, it looks like a dream from, but it's
actually the real deal.
The Ho-Hai-Yan Rock Festival and the local bands that
perform at it are expressing a protest against the
predatory style of the international music industry. But
we always hold out hope that our movement will become
stronger. We might not be on the charts, or in the
gossip columns, but with our dedication we know we're
laying our roots deep in this soil. |
